Students may need to re-register to vote in the EU referendum

May 20, 2016

Students may need to re-register to vote in the EU referendumIf you're registered to vote at uni but not at home, you may miss your chance to vote on 23 June.

A survey of students for Universities UK found that 72% of students think the EU referendum will make a big difference to their future - but despite this, 63% didn't know when it was, and 44% of those who were only registered to vote at uni said they wouldn't be there on referendum day.

If you will be 18 or over on 23 June, you have until 7 June to register to vote. You can be registered at home and at university as long as you only vote once. If you won't be able to make it to a polling station on voting day – which includes anyone going to Glastonbury – you have until 5pm on 8 June to apply for a postal vote.
